We are getting some construction work done in our business. This is costing about $20K. And the contractor is asking for the payments in cash. Is it legal to pay cash to the contractor. If so, would I be able to report these expenses in my tax returns? He said he will give me the receipt for the payments we do. I got good references of this contractor about the work. Also, I saw his work in other place. I understand that he wants to save some money by not reporting this income. But I am wondering if that would be of any problem for me reporting these are expenses in my tax returns?

why do trucks drive in the left lane of construction zones in michigan?

in Michigan on I-75 between Saginaw and Flint, they are rebuilding the southbound lane for about 10 miles. there are 4 lanes going in each direction and it shinks down to 3 lanes in each direction when you are in the construction zone. the southbound lane is shifted across the median into the northbound lanes so the southbound lane can be free of traffic and the construction crews can work faster. there is a concrete barricade between the opposing traffic. the width of each lane is shrunk and an extra lane is added on the shoulder of the northbound lane, which is annoying cuz you drive on the rumble strips. so there is still 3 lanes of traffic in each direction. Now. enter the zone, there are signs that tell trucks to drive in the left lane, which is against the barricade. Why is this?? what is the purpose?
this is the same for pretty much any construction zone in Michigan on the highways..

The pictures of the building look great, but on Google Streetview we saw a big construction going on right next door. Does anyone know, if this construction is finished by now? Or does anyone actually live in this building and can tell me, if there is any noise problem with the construction site nearby.

My husband and I are working with a builder of a subdivision we are planning on building in. We chose a home from the options this builder has for the sub. To get started on the house, we need to give him $5,000 down. However we do not have the funds saved so we are able to do a construction loan. I've heard so many things about construction loans and how the fees are horrible. Yet, its been so hard for me to find any information. Would the fees be that steep, even though we only need $5000 down? Is there any specific banks/companies out there that make this process easier that anyone would recommend? Any help or information would be greatly appreciated. Thank You!
